Q: What is the Montessori Method?

A: Decision and educator, Maria Montessori’s philosophy is based on her discovery of what she called “the child’s true normal nature.” Montessori educators view each child as having their own natural guidance system which, when allowed to develop uninterrupted, will promote the child’s individual perfect development. The Montessori classroom is arranged in such a way as to encourage independent learning based on the child’s curiosity and readiness. The goal of a Montessori education is to educate the whole child and encourage learning in all areas of life: social, cognitive, emotional, and physical.

Q: Is Montessori religious or spiritual method?

A: No. The Montessori method is an educational method. It has no affiliation with any spiritual belief system.

Q: What is the role of the teacher in a Montessori classroom?

A: The teachers role is to control the environment, not the children. The teacher prepares the materials and demonstrates how to use them.

Q: What age must a child be to attend RMMS?

A: Rainbow Montessori accepts children from 1 through 6 years of age. We have a Kindergarten class, and hold a full graduation ceremony for our Kinder graduates who feel pride in being role models for the younger children. Our graduates have special academic periods and other activities that help prepare them for first grade.

Q: Must children be “toilet trained” to attend RMMS?

A: No, our Little Montessorian classroom has full nursery facilities. In order to move into one of our mixed 3yr to 6yr classrooms, a child must be fully potty trained.

A: Our academic school day runs from 9 AM to 3 PM. We offer before-care starting at 7:00 AM and after-care until 6:30 PM.

Q: Do you offer a partial week schedule?

A: All children enrolled at Rainbow Montessori must attend 5 days a week. During this period, parents may remain with the child if they feel it will help the adjustment.
